Brigadier General Heikki Harjunmaa

Brigadier General Heikki Harjunmaa flew total of 1261 hours with Finnish Air Force MiGs. He was one of nine Finnish Air Force MiG pilots who logged over 1000 hours in the MiGs. Colonel Heikki Harjunmaa was Commanding Officer of Karelian Air Command during 1994-1996. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1996 and he served as the first Finnish NATO officer in Brussels 1996-1999. Brigadier General Heikki Harjunmaa retired in 1999. He was one of the most experienced MiG drivers in Finnish Air Force.

MiGs in Finland
Finnish Air Force operated with four MiG-15UTI (CS-102) trainers in 1962-1977. One trainer crashed. Heikki Harjunmaa flew 24 hours in MiG-15UTI.

Finnish Air Force operated with 22 MiG-21F-13, type 74, fighters during 1963-1986.
Five MiG-21F-13s crashed. Heikki Harjunmaa flew 518 hours in MiG-21F-13s.
Finnish Air Force had two MiG-21U (type 66) trainers.
There were also four MiG-21UM (type 69) in service. Harjunmaa flew 402 hours in MiG-21U/UMs.
Fighter Squadron 31 MiG-21bis (type 75) MG-129 and MG-124 at EFKU in 1985.
Fighter Squadron 31 MiG-21bis MG-134 at Kauhava in 1993.
Reconnaissance Squadron MiG-21bis MG-125 at Tampere in 1996.
MG-138 made type's last flight in 7.3.1998. Today MG-138 is at Central Finland Aviation Museum.

WW2 24th Fighter Squadron
Fighter Squadron 31 is keeping on traditions of the famous WW2 era 24th Fighter Squadron.
24th Fighter Squadron Brewster Model 239 (F2A-1) with lynx emblem. Finnish Air Force had 44 Brewsters and scored 478 victories in 1941-44.
Ace pilot Pekuri's BW-372 at Central Finland Aviation Museum. This aircraft was found from Karelian lake in 1989.
The world's only example of the type. This Brewster is owned by Pensacola based US Navy Museum.
