The computer aided produced newspaper, Haveri News was born in a fall evening at school of Haveri on a visit of Hattu Inc. from Herttoniemi in Helsinki, where this famous Logo-language Glub mentioned above, held an interesting introduction about Logo-turtle to teachers and parents of Haveri school. And then this newspaper was published once a semester during 1987-96. Haveri News was a sequel to the former handmade Classroom News. Now we were able to test possibilities of the computer in publishing essays, written in the pupils essay-books about events at home or abroad and about the own achievements of pupils, into the form of a real newspaper.
During the first years we used to do publishing with Apple IIe and Newsroom, a publishing program, which has a deligthful, "never-ending" photo-gallery. By Mac Plus computers we then succeeded in getting Microsoft Works, one of the fastest and most developed integrated programs with word processing, data base and spreadsheet. At the same time we could "protect by law" our old Apple IIe for the use of nature science experimentation and also of computer aided library-keeping, which was the responsibility of 6. grade.
During the experimentation years Haveri News edition was distributed to parents at Christmas festivals and spring-fetes of our school. Then this publication seemed to build a uniting bridge between experimentation school, parents and other binding groups. Comparmentalised, not to say splintered and abstractionally jumbled knowledge of basic school began to reach features that supported thinking on ones own, presupposed by school law and freedom of thought and speech, in this little rural school. The Computer Aided Learning by creative way with right programs, that will strengthen talents of pupils, had made it possible to carry out the Renaissance of the Little School and Small Learning Teams.
