ility offers training in reliability, availability, maintainability (RAM) and safety of critical systems - particularly for chemical process plant. Our current portfolio of courses is listed below. See the end of this section for general information regarding fees, venue, materials, etc.
Some of our courses are also offered with Process Technology Consultants Ltd.
For engineers whose work is likely to be limited to generating Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) requirements and interpreting suppliers' data, rather than detailed RAM analyses. It covers the same material as R&M for managers (see above) but in more detail. The course discusses Availability within the context of plant performance and explains its relationship to R&M and the tradeoffs that can be made. Methods of estimating the levels of R&M required are described. Reliability Block Diagrams, Failure Modes and Effects, Fault Tree, and Maintainability Analysis are described and their appropriate use is emphasised. The course also covers Reliability & Maintainability testing requirements and describes how to interpret Reliability & Maintainability data. More details…

The use of computers in control – especially in safety-critical systems – opens up a whole new range of possibilities for getting things wrong. This course attempts to reduce that range of possibilities by showing how to get the specification right. The course does not attempt to produce programmers; it is intended for experienced control and safety engineers and is presented from the point of view of the system procurer. The course is intended to meet many of the requirements of IEC 61508, the HSE PES Guidelines, and UK DefStan 00-58. Details…

Sneak Analysis is a method for identifying potentially hazardous design defects. ility has pioneered the application of Sneak Analysis to chemical process systems and, as far as ility is aware, this is the only course of its type available in Europe. The course is intended for those involved in the safety of process plant, offshore oil and gas, etc. and covers both continuous and batch plants. A knowledge of HAZOP, and general engineering design is assumed. The course material includes a copy of the Holmes database of Sneak Clues. Details…

The following applies to all courses given by ility .
These courses are very intensive and require hard work and concentration by all those involved. Because of this, numbers are strictly limited to those quoted for each course.
Each course comes complete with all printed notes, worked examples, exercises, and solutions to the exercises.
The fees quoted are for courses presented at the client's facility, within the EU, and include all materials, lecturer's expenses, etc. but exclude the costs of travel, subsistence and shipping of materials. The fees quoted are exclusive of VAT.
ility is pleased to quote for courses given outside the EU. We also offer residential courses in Finland. These can be in the charming lakeside city of Tampere or in the exciting ski resort of Kittila, at the foot of Mount Levi. (Actually, Kittila is so exciting that all the web pages describing it are in Italian; the best we can find in English is this, which doesn't actually tell you very much but the pictures are nice.)
We are always ready to try to meet the special needs of our customers. If you need courses tailored to a particular industry, we will work with you to provide these. We can also arrange to provide courses in special locations, including those where security is an issue. Please contact us with your requirements.
Our customers include: CARR; ESA; IChemE; Petrobras; Sonatrach; Tampere Technical University, and Zeneca. The others prefer to remain confidential.
