If you are like me, you know Windows and .NET programming better than Java. Now, it is still beneficial to know what it is like on the other side of the fence, and thus I also enjoy knowing the basics of the Java world.
MSDN has a good comparison about ASP.NET and the Java Struts framework, both of which are used for web application development.
The article doesn't go into code-level, but instead stays more on the architectural level. For example, it was interesting to read how the MVC pattern applies to ASP.NET. Recommended reading.
I friend of mine invited my today to join the new LinkedIn service.
I think the idea of LinkedIn is great, and I need to find new friend that would want to join the system while this is still free (during the beta period).
The only question is that will LinkedIn be just the service the prevails.
I took a cab to my customer today, and the driver was one of the more chatty types. He told me that he had already worked three hours, and I was his third customer. Unpretty!
If the number of taxi rides is any indication, then business isn't going that well. Now, I still won't be losing my sleep over this, since it's still the holiday season.
Oh well, the old BSE tragedy has started all over again. Twenty plus countries have stopped importing U.S. meat, and even the Finnish state media went on to note that the spoiled meat could have ended in a hamburger restaurant.
Come on, do people really believe they are going to get a deadly disease by eating meat originating from the U.S.? I'm going to eat my Big Macs just as ever, and oh boy, they taste even better now that there are less people at my local McDonalds!
Today's storm caused trouble in southern Finland and also in Sweden. I don't know, but it feels like these types of disasters are more frequent than they used to be. One sure cannot chop every tree so that they wouldn't hit power lines or block roads when falling, but having 5+ hours of power failures is costly too, especially in the metropolitan areas. Just my five cents, but "something ought to be done."
I just found out about the ServicePoint class that controls HTTP connections in .NET.
For instance, the default maximum number of connection per server is set to two (2). Now, this might affect some applications if one is not aware of this setting. The MaxIdleTime property also seems interesting.
Gotta study this class in more detail.
I was browsing old issues of the MSDN Magazine, and found a great article about code security. The article by Michael Howard is available here. Also, another good security article (focusing on SQL injection) can be found from 4GuysFromRolla.com. Recommended reading for any web developer!
Still no response from Beagle. Despite what they say, I call the silence a disappointment. Hopefully Stanford can pick up the signal later today.
Christmas holidays are an excellent time to introduce oneself to blogging.
It was pretty easy to use C# and .NET to write a simple client to output RSS 2.0 compatible content.
