Our Rats

These pages are dedicated to our adorable boy rats Nuutti and Jörkki. They were littermates and were born on May 26, 1997. We got them on June 30, '97. They were named after two human brothers we know. They were rex (i.e. curly-haired) rats. Nuutti's colour was topaz and Jörkki's agouti. Nuutti died on July 22, 1999 and Jörkki passed away two months after him, on September 25 - R.I.P., our sweet little furballs :-(

Nuutti was more outgoing than Jörkki, and he loved to explore. He peed and nibbled on everything *sigh*... Jörkki's favourite hobby was eating. He liked being scratched; he would brux (i.e. grind his teeth) and groom us back when he was in the mood. The boys developed a funny habit: when they were on your shoulder and wanted down, they gave your shirt a little nip. It was their way of communicating with you. Besides rats, Tanja has had two gerbils and a hamster, but rats are definitely smarter and more affectionate than them. We highly recommend rats as pets!
