If you want to know more about rat care, read the Pet Rat Information Sheet. Arianna's Rat FAQ, Jazmyn's Rat FAQ (contains photos of rat varieties), Wererat's Rat Facts and Rat Help are good sources of information as well. Virginia's Rat Page has lots of references to interesting rat stuff on the Net. For a huge amount of rat links, visit Open Directory - Rats.
Two Usenet newsgroups, alt.pets.rodents.rats and rec.pets, often have posts about rats. There are also mailing lists for the discussion of pet rats, e.g. the Ratlist and a Swedish list called R8. The messages sent to the Ratlist are archived.
In my opinion, the best and most up-to-date book on rats as pets is Rats! A Fun and Care Book by Debbie "The Ratlady" Ducommun. Ginger Cardinal's The Rat: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet is a new book recommended by many of the rat listers. The Proper Care of Fancy Rats by Nick Mays is good as well. You can also order other rat books online at Amazon.com.

The Ratlady's Rat Health Care booklet is very useful, too - see The Rat Fan Club's Web page or email Debbie at ratlady@sunset.net for more information on her publications. The best Finnish rat book is Kesyrotat by Outi Pauliina Salo.
