Requirements for Exchange 2003
- System partition, partition that stores Exchange program, Exchange log files, database files, other Exchange files must be formatted for NTFS file system.
- Windows 2003 or Windows 2000 SP3 or later
- Active Directory. The Exchange Server 2003 Setup must be able to contact at least one Active Directory Server
- .NET Framework
- ASP.NET
- Internet Information Service IIS
- Word Wide Web Publishing Service
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol SMTP service
- Network News Transfer Protocol NNTP service
- Support tools must be installed from Windows 2003 server CD (support\tools)
- Dedicated Microsoft Exchange 2003 Administrator account must be created (svc_exchange)
Check is .NET Framework installed.
Go C:\Windows folder and try to find folder Microsoft.NET

Check and install
- ASP.NET
- Internet Information Service IIS
- Word Wide Web Publishing Service
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol SMTP service
- Network News Transfer Protocol NNTP service
Use Add remove programs to check what components is installed on server.
Go Add Remove programs.
Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add / Remove Windows Components
Window Windows Components Wizard
Select Application Server | Press Details button.

Select Internet Information Services (IIS) and press Details


Select NNTP Service and SMTP Service

Press Details button.

Press OK button twice.
Back to Application Server window. Press OK button.
No more modifications now.
Continue Windows Components installation. Press Next

Windows Components Wizard start.
Wait 2 minutes.
Close window Windows Components Wizard. Press Finish.

Install Windows support tools.
Windows 2003 server CD have folder D:\support\tools. Go there and start suptools.msi (Right click install). Install defaults are fine.
Add new user svc_exchange
- Add member of groups Schema Admins; Enterprise Admins; Domain Admins; (Domain Users is already).
Start | Administrative Tools | Active Directory Users and Computers

Active Directory Users and Computers.

Select Users
Create new user svc_exchange.
Right click | Select New | User

Give First name svc_exchange Full name svc_exchange User logon name svc_exchange

Next
Give very strong password at least 15 characters including special characters, because this account has very much power to do damage.

Add member of groups Schema Admins; Enterprise Admins; Domain Admins; (Domain Users is already).
Window Active Directory Users and Computers. Select svc_exchange. Right click Select Properties

Select Member Of | Add | Add Schema Admins; Enterprise Admins; Domain Admins; | Check Names

OK
User svc_exchange. Added Groups.

Apply
Select General. Give Description. Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator

Apply and OK
Active Directory Users and Computers svc_exchange user is created.

Close all active programs. and Log off.
Log in svc_exchange user name and start Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 installation.

Close Manage Your Server window if it exist.
Run DCDiag. Start command prompt and type dcdiag. See results in here my dcdiag.txt All passed.
Run netdiag. Start command prompt and type netdiag. See result in here my netdiag.txt All passed.
Run ForestPrep to extend the Active Directory schema for Exchange Server 2003. ForestPrep must run once in the Active Directory forest in the domain where the schema master resides. (Usually schema master runs on the first Windows domain controller installed in a forest.) Forest root domain.
Run from Microsoft Exchange 2003 CD d:\setup\i386\setup.exe /forestprep

- The Internet Information Services Snap-In component must be precent (IIS must be installed)
Check is Internet Information Services Snap-In installed (Windows XP SP2).
