Muura's Nova Boadicea

born 5.7.1999

Xena came to Elina as a companion to Lily, also with hopes for breeding potential. And she does have a CAC and BOS from a show. She has also been temperament tested with 71 points and saying "first grade pet". Elina has always been very happy with her temperament and other qualities. Xena resembles Sulttaani in many ways, but is after all a lot different too - as all dogs are unique.

Elina was going to stud Xena in 2002 with Antti, but a tragedy followed such plans. Elina was diagnosed with asthma, Antti died being hit by a car, and Xena was diagnosed with probably hereditary type epilepsy. Thus Xena never became the foundation of Elina's phalène breeding. But nevertheless she has been dearly loved for all her life.

Xena was fully named by Elina, and she has lived up to her name. First of all, she's a warrior bitch, just like Xena and Boadicea. She gets well along with male dogs of all kind, preferably small. And she's actually excited about males whether in heat or not. But with females there is always a possibility she might challenge one. She has fought with one of her brothers and two sisters as a puppy, and an adult phalène when she was only about 7 months old. Secondly Xena became rather tall for her breed (Lucy Lawless is a tall woman, and the same is said about Boadicea).

Xena was stubborn already as a puppy, and has always been grumpy if she's disturbed by another dog when sleeping. Xena howls with a beautiful low voice - nobody has just found out what exactly triggers her howling. She loves tracking and sniffing around in general. In winter time Xena tracks rabbit poop, which she then eats. She has been trained in agility, and liked it, but not as much as Lily.

Xena's learning ability is amazing. When Elina was trick training Lily, Xena clearly watched carefully already as a small puppy. Then when it came time to start training Xena, Elina noticed that she already knew some tricks. She just required confirmation "I think it was like this, was it?".

In 2008 Xena doesn't seem like a 9 year old. She's a happy and very active dog with hardly any grey at all. One could easily take her for a 4 year old. Xena loves long walks, especially in the forest. She has had only minor health problems occasionally, and still wags her tail a lot. Xena has always been more of a "one person dog", and changing home was a hugely stressing situation for her - Elina suspects it as the cause of epilepsy starting to show up. Fortunately she has had only a few seizures, and none in a very long time now.

Both dogs get 24/7 attention and care by humans, and are the pride and joy of two retired couples (Elina's parents and aunt & Kalevi).
