C-litter

Born 21.11.1995

Dam: EC Kehräämön Amanda, BRI f, tortie

Sire: CH Jolly Gismo van Locust Valley, DM, BRI b, chocolate

Gismo is the first (and only) british shorthair in Finland who has gained DM, distinguished merit!

Amanda's delivery wasn't as easy and quick as her mother's as Amanda is much smaller than Minttu (who is almost too big...). One of the kittens got stuck really badly and when he finally was out, he was already dead and nothing helped. Luckily all the other four kittens were really lively and ok. One of the kittens (Caramelle), was very small - only 57 g, but she was also really spunky.

In this litter was a tortie girl (Caramelle, Apina = "Monkey"), bluecreme girl (Champagne Blue, Ottilia), blue boy (Cool Joe, Puppe) and a blue girl (Blue Candy, Karkki).

I myself gave birth to my first son, Kristo, only a month after these kittens. So they were brought up together and really got used to each other...

Apina (=Monkey) got her name as she was really swift-moving as a kitten. When the other kittens were still in the basket, Apina climbed up from there to be able to sleep with me! As she was so very small, I didn't want to sell her as a show cat and she finally moved to live with my friend Kati. Apina turned up to be a really beautiful cat when she was neutered and got older! In fact she is one of the best show cats I've ever had... She went to her first show in January 1999 and was nominated for BIS! She has now been in several shows and in addition to this BIS she has been Best of Variety and also BIS neuter!! Quite an achievement for that undersized kitten...

Selling Puppe was not a hard job - in fact he found a new home when he was only a few days old. Blue boys were really wanted at that time. So when he was old enough, Puppe moved to his new home in Vantaa to live with family Herpiö and their two dogs, who immediately adopted him.

Ottilia took my heart already as a baby, but my husband didn't let me keep her so she moved to her new home in Hyvinkää. There she had another british shorthair to keep company and also a canary bird. In spite of all the precautions the family took with the bird, the cats together managed to drop down the birdcage and the poor canary died of heartattack...

Now was left only Karkki and I really couldn't find her a new home so my husband had to live with the fact that we had our fourth BSH. I started to go to cat shows with her and she was already GIC when I decided to neuter her - when she was in heat, nobody could sleep - not Karkki herself, not me and not my neighbors... After she was neutered, she suddenly decided to get fat - and at the same time she transformed to a tomcat ;-) or at least that is what she looks like nowadays! As a neuter Karkki has been nominated for BIS and BOV many times and finally 31.7.99 she became European Premior.

Here is the whole litter, from the left: Karkki, Apina, Ottilia and Puppe.

Here is Karkki as a very small baby.

And abt 6 months old.

Ottilia the heart-breaker

IP Kehräämön Caramelle 1999. Nice "smile", eh??

Here at the cat show in Nokia, judge Ad de Bruijn from Holland. He (too) loved Apina and nominated her for BIS.

Here a bit more normal look for Apina!
