FOUNDATION BITCHES
In '82 I purchased two bitches, fawn and brindle, from the famous
Danehouse Kennel - Sune Johansson and Per Magnusson - in Sweden. Altough
others came before, I consider these two bitches to the foundation of
what Helisain Great Danes are today.

The brindle bitch Fin & Swe Ch Danehouse Country
Girl, “Penni”, was one of those priceless "once-in-a-lifetime" breeding
bitches. She was mated five times with five different studs and each of
those five litters produced several Champions, including a World Winner
'89. Penni’s progeny won also Finnish “Great Dane of the Year” competition
six years in a row - Helisain Alma-Ata 1988, Helisain Isarda 1989 and Helisain
Americano 1990, 1991 and 1992 and Helisain Waldemar 1993!
A sire of the first litter was Nord Ch Grandline’s Djingis-Khan. Five
puppies were born, including: Int & Nord Helisain Indira, BISS, Int &
Fin & Swe Ch Helisain Isarda and Fin Ch Helisain Izabell. Indira was
third in a Finnish “Great Dane of the Year” competition in 1986. Izarda was
second in 1988 and won the competition in 1989. All three produced several
Champions.
The second litter with an American import Reann’s Marcus Sebastian included
BIS, BISS, Int & Nord Ch FinW-89, KVHW-91 Helsain Alma-Ata, BIS, BISS
Fin & Nor Ch Helisain Americano, Fin Ch Helisain Aramis and Fin Ch
Helisain Alcapone. Alma-Ata won Finnish “Great Dane of the Year” competition
in 1988 and was third in 1989 and 1994, Americano was third in 1988, second
in 1989 and won the competition in 1990, 1991 and 1992.
A sire of the third litter was also an American import, this time Int
& Nord Ch Chanel’s Excalibur of Airways. Only one puppy of this litter
participated in shows – BIS, Fin & Dk Ch WW-89 Helisain Nocturno.
In the fourth time Penni was mated with BIS, Int & Nord Ch FinW-88
Helisain Legenda, son of Int & Nord Ch Gerjo’s Shilo of Airways and
Int & Nord Ch Danehouse Atalaya. This litter included, among others,
BIS, Fin Ch Helisain Waldemar, Fin Ch Helisain Wernaja, Fin Ch Helisain Walerie
and Fin Ch Helisain Wellamo. Waldemar was third in a Finnish “Great Dane
of the Year” competition in 1990, second in 1992 and won the competition
in 1993.
A sire of the last litter was an own American import Fin & Dk Ch
Milchase Granville Walham Green. This litter included, among others, Fin
Ch Helisain Panama and Helisain Primavera, which got two CCs.
Penni’s progeny class showed about 30 times. About 20 of those were BIS
wins. Penni was at places 2-4 four years in a row in the “Stud Dog of the
Year” competition, where all breeds were considered. Penni’s progeny played
also important part in 1989, when Helisain Great Danes won the “Breeder of
the Year” competition.
Penni produced Great Danes with a healthy structure and of a uniform
quality. In addition several of them were unique show starts which have
been at top in their own breed category.

The fawn girl Int & Nord Ch Danehouse Atalaya,
“Ruusa”, became such a glorious show star with 3 x BIS, multi BISS and
3 x Finnish “Great Dane of the Year” competition wins. She won her first
BIS at 12 month old!
Ruusa’s sister Int & Nord Ch Danehouse Avalanche was, among other
things, a winner of the “Great Dane of the Year” competition in Sweden. Her
brother Int & Nord Ch NordicW-85 Danehouse Avant-Garde showed also his
place as a show dog.
Altogether Ruusa had three litters. In the first time she was mated with
Int & Fin & Swe Ch NordicW-79 -82 -83 Gerjo´s Shilo of Airways.
One puppy was born, Int & Nord Ch FinW-88 Helisain Legenda. This dog
had an excellent show career and besides he was a great stud dog that produced
several champions.
In the second litter with Hillview’s Calvin was in all five puppies,
of which one was exported to America. I kept myself a dog, Fin Ch Helisain
Idolli, and a bitch, Fin Ch Helisain Indian Summer. Indian summer didn’t
have litters, but Idolli produced numerous champions.
A sire of the last litter was Int & Nord Ch FinW-88 Helisain Legenda.
Two dogs were born, Helisain Salamander, which moved to Canada at 10 month
old, and Helisain Safir.
