Project assessment: NOKI-ikon was a small and delicate project. During the design phase the extensions and excisting interiors were worked on to improve the 1960's living conditions. By the time the final plans were submitted as the official building permissions, the design took a different form from the sketches. Finally, when the actual construction began and during the building process, the project went through a multitude of changes that resulted in a quite a different look from the architect's original intention. All in all, NOKI-ikon was an interesting project in making a modern 25 sauna out of wood.

The all-white bathroom with a delicious view to the private green garden give special air to the enjoyment of wellness bathing. The dark sauna is connected to the bathroom by a smoke-gray glassdoor.

The sauna extension is made out of Finnish wood, which is painted tar-black in colour. The bathroom and the bathtub are seen through the tall window. The dark sauna section is equipped with narrow horizontal and vertical windows, which frame the garden views for the people sitting on the hot benches.

The sauna was designed with different spacial atmospheres in mind. The sauna itself is dark, the bathroom more like human skin in colour and texture and the dressing room just pure light on white walls of striped vaneer wood. This photograph was taken from the sauna seat looking towards the dressig room. All the spaces are connected by sliding doors.
