T A I P A L E Project assignment: The assignment was to design a unique, but moderate-cost house, that could be partially be build by the family. The client wished for a modern looking house from the exterior with a cosy inner courtyard on the inside. The design had to meet the challenges presented by the program, site conditions and existing urban code. |

Taipale / sketch Early sketch showing development of the schematic site plan. Entry to the site is from the northwest (top of the image). The house is on a totally flat ground with over 20 meters of clay beneath the building site. The house is placed in the upper corner of the site so that the rooms open up towards the ideal direction of the sunshine. The composition of the building makes a wall against the surroundings and produces a tranquile inner courtyard. |
