| The first rapids on the fishing area is the Vireensahi rapids, about 1,5 km up from the road bridge. It is very rocky, under 100 meters long with small descent, good for dry flies by wading. It is reached best by boat, canoe or floating tube or about 200 meters from the small road through the woods. The banks are in a natural condition, especially the southern bank is very bushy.
The beginning of the Koirasalmi sound is rocky and can also be fished with sinking flies or spinners. The Koirasyvä is an interesting deep "hole" in the middle of the otherwise rather low river. It is told to be over 30 meters deep. |

At the beginning the Mieskoski rapids the river takes two bends. The smaller one is under protection from the road bridge downwards. There are plenty of big underwater stones above the waterfall. It is possible to wade but it is best to fish on the eastern bank. Don´t forget to fish under the bridge! The rapids is a straight and short channel because of the bridge construction.
(photo album: part 1, part 2, part 3) The narrow part after the smooth waters has given big fish and wild runaways. There is also a jetty in the narrows. |
| The next jetty is above the next Naiskoski rapids. There starts a very good fishing area continuing to smooth waters after the rapids. There is a narrow bridge over the Naiskoski rapids. On the banks there is big log lean-to shelter and an outhouse, which are also provided for paddlers on the Naarajoki-canoeing-route, for the islandic-horse riders riding in the forests and also for other people wandering in the scenery surroundings of the Nykälä Rapids. A jetty for paddlers is situated 100 mtr before the Naiskoski rapids.

The next ones, the Leppäkoski rapids and the Myllykoski rapids with the smooth waters on both sides of them, offer you real peace of nature. The landscape becomes even finer when you reach the border of the fishing area. These spots have given plenty of great trout. But in case of a really big splash, the reason is probably a beaver. There are plenty of beavers in the river area. An interesting extra to the atmosphere of the Nykälä Rapids are the bats flying around in night time. |
