In the 19th Century the rapids in
Imatra were one of the most known rapids in Europe visited by many
European Royal families. Most frequent visitors however were the Russian
Czar family who valued Imatrankoski very high. There is now one of the largest water power turbines in the rapids nowdays but you can feel the power of the white water by visiting Imatra on Summer nights at 18 o'clock when the dam ports are opened... |
