In the middle of the 19th Century
Parikkala area was one of the poorest in Viipuri region. In order
to improve their standard of living, started the farmers at that time a
huge project where they built a channel through rocks and cliffs just
using their wooden spades and iron sticks.
Take the Channel Path and have a glimpse to our ancestor's history and enjoy the fresh Ladoga-Carelian nature. The channel path is 2 kilometres long path alonside channel bank. There is also a good possibilities to fish in the channel or capture craps. You need a permit for this and we are glad to give you information in this matter. |
