The road which goes in the front of the
shop is the old mainroad from Viipuri (Wyborg, now Russian) to
Savonlinna. The 14 kilometres long sand covered road from Kirjavala to
Putikko (in Punkaharju) is the only part of the road which still is in
historical shape. You can experience how it was to travel in 1930's
before cars were common in Finnish roads. Busses from Viipuri to Savonlinna travelled this way. And if you ever have wondered why Finns have so many good Rally drivers, you wont wonder it after driving this way! But please drive carefully, sand is a tricky surface to drive. This is the shortest way to Punkaharju and Savonlinna from us. |
