Consider the movie Clockwork Orange. I'll summarise it for you.
The leading character in the story is a young gang leader who enjoys random displays of violence. He and his gang roams around mugging and assaulting people. Eventually he goes too far and commits a murder, is caught, put into prison and subjected to a psychological conditioning treatment. The tre
atment renders him uncapable of violence...
The story goes on, but the rest is actually irrelevant. Here the main question is: is it right to disable one's freedom to do evil?
Animals only perform by their nature and cannot do neither good nor evil, but human nature is unfortunately not that simpl
e. The ability to choose right and wrong is one of the things that defines a human - it is build into the human consciousness or the super-ego. By definition, when this ability is removed a person becomes less human and more like an animal. This corresponds to the meanings of the words "inhuman" and
"animal".
This is a tricky subject. For example the concepts of good, evil, human and non-human have been discussed for many thousands of years in philosophy and science and the discussion goes on. It is evident that philosophy or science cannot answer these questions. A person needs to fill this
gap with his subject. Think about it.
Snatcher is a game originally released in 1988 for MSX2. The game is produced by Hideo Kojima who's also responsible for Metal Gear Solid.
You might think that a 20-year-old game is just too old - it can't meet today's gameplay standards etc - but let me tell you, there's something in this game that's difficult to put into words! The game smells like a timeless classic and I recommend it sincerely.
If you want to try Snatcher, there
's a Mega CD 1992 remake here which includes: Snatcher CD image, Gens emulator, Mega CD BIOS (us) and some other stuff.
This download is provided by Solide from Hideo Kojima Finland's forum.
Ins
tructions: Extract the archive. Run Gens emulator. Tweak the emulator settings (you propably need to set the BIOS file). Load Snatcher CD image. Play and enjoy!
If you can't get the Gens emulator working, try Fusion (which is better IM
HO).
